The Mariners are based out of Seattle, Washington. Their home ballpark is Safeco Field. The Major League Baseball team is in the West Division of the American League. Since their debut game on April 7, 1977, the team has not won a World Series title or an American League pennant. The Mariners have won the West Division title in 1995, 1997, and 2001.

The 2008 season will consist of 45 regular games which will all be aired on FSN Northwest. At the time of this article the Mariners have had 4 wins and 6 losses in the 2008 season. The Mariners signed Carlos Silva to add to their pitching staff this season. Silva was part of a trade package to the Baltimore Orioles. This pitching change was a huge win for the Mariners. In his debut game with the Mariners on April 2, Silva had an impressive 1.29 ERA and led the team to a victory over the Texas Rangers.

Another important change for the Seattle Mariners this season is their coaching staff. Four new staff members have been added. Jim Riggleman is now the bench coach for the Mariners and was a former MLB Manager of the San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs. Former second baseman for the Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres, Sam Perlozzo, is the new third base coach. Perlozzo not only played baseball but he coached as well and made his way up the ranks to manager of the Baltimore Orioles before joining the Mariners. A former player and manager, Lee Elia, joins the Mariners as an on-field consultant. The Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs both had Elia on their staff as a manager. Elia has coached for the Yankees, Blue Jays, Devil Rays, and Orioles. Mel Stottlemyre joins the Mariners as the pitching coach. Stottlemyre was also the pitching coach for the Yankees, Mets and Astros.

Could these coaching changes and pitching addition help lead the Mariners to an American League victory or a World Series title? Only time will tell the outcome. Tune in the Fox Sports Network on DirecTV and watch the Mariners finish out the season.
