The King of Denial
If I had to take a guess regarding the type of person Barry Bonds is, I would presume he is the type of person who subscribes to the notion that if a tree falls in the woods and nobody is around to hear it, then it does not make a sound. Based on Barrys latest antics yesterday this clearly must be the case. In a new book titled Game of Shadows: Barry Bonds, Balco and the Steroids Scandal That Rocked Professional Sports, the authors (Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams) offer thousands of documents, interviews, and secret grand jury testimony of Bonds and other athletes involved in the Balco case, which prove to me and anyone else who considers themselves reasonable that Barry Bonds has been taking steroids since the end of the 1998 season. The authors were also provided with several taped recordings that were given to them by Barry Bonds mistress and which point to his steroid use. I know that seems hard to believe, Bonds being the great family man and all, but lets say for the sake of argument that this so called mistress really exists and perhaps accept the fact that Bonds is just a bold faced liar and self-righteous hypocrite.
What is Bonds answer to all of this? When asked what he thought of this new book and the excerpts that were featured in this months Sports Illustrated, Bonds acted like it was news to him, and said I wont even look at it. For what? Theres no need to. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Barry, but if a tree falls in the woods and nobody is around to hear it, it does in fact still make a sound. And if a book about your strict regiment of injecting yourself with illegal steroids is written, and you are not around to read it, the book does in fact still exist. Unfortunately for you there will still be people in those woods who will gladly take the time to read all about you, even if you insist on burying your head in the sand or hiding behind one of your children at a press conference. Sadly those are the same children who now know the all-to-sad truth about Barrys unfaithfulness to his wife, his family, his teammates, and the game of baseball.
My name is Adam Riccardi and I write a column for one of the great up and coming sports collectible sites on the web, http://www.Sportslizard.com While I have written about more serious topics in the past, i.e. sports memorabilia and its authentication processes, I enjoy sharing my thoughts on lighter topics which center around the world of sports. Whether its ripping the commisioner or baseball, criticizing a member of the media, or adding levity to the steroid situation, I thoroughly enjoy expressing myself on the issues of sports. Im also very lucky to be associated with Sportslizard.com, which has a lot to offer to sports fans of all ages and interest levels, whether it be the autograph collector, sports figure enthusiast, and your average 20-something sports junkie. I look forward to writing more and more articles for sportslizard for many years to come.
