Ebook Writing - Writing a Book for Internet Publication I
There are many reasons for a writing a book, and if it is for internet publication, either as a hard copy or as an e-book, you must be sure in your mind why you are writing it and what your objective is in doing so.
There is a world of difference between writing an information book that is intended for publication in print, and writing exactly the same book for internet distribution as an e-book. What is an acceptable format for a regular book may not be so for an e-book that will generally be read on a computer screen rather than on a printed page. Font design, for example, is a case in point. Fonts suitable for a printed product might not be so for reading on a screen, where Arial and Verdana are the two best suited to the eye on a computer screen.
Paragraph size is also important. Text intended to be read on screen, rather than in print, should be presented within short paragraphs of between two to four sentences. Otherwise it can be tedious to the eye. It has been proved many times that internet pages with several short paragraphs hold visitors attention for much longer than those with two or three longer paragraphs.
However, lets get down to the reasons for writing, since this has a bearing on how you should write it. People rarely write fictional books specifically for online consumption. Yes, there are many sites that provide online versions of fiction, such as The Online Literature Library, but these books were not written specifically for online consumption.
