Healthy Eating Habits To Lose Weight
Losing or maintaining your weight can be a challenge with the conflicting information available today. It seems that there are many new fad diets hitting the shelf everyday. The truth is, there are some basic healthy habits to lose weight that you can incorporate into your daily life easily.
Tip # 1 Drink your water.
Thirst is the number one culprit for eating when we are not really hungry. Being thirsty can cause you to feel hunger pangs. Everyone’s daily water needs are different; you really need to pay attention to your body to make sure you are getting the water you need. Different factors affecting your water intake will include health, activity level, age, and weight.
Tip # 2 Watch your portion sizes!
There are recommended serving sizes on food labels for a reason. Take the time to measure or weigh your food before you eat it, and you’ll eat a lot less than if you eyeball your portions. Pay special attention to the number of servings in popular junk food items such as potato chips and soft drinks; most often there is more than one serving in a single bag.
Tip # 3 Fill up your plate with protein and veggies.
If you fill your plate with mainly protein and veggies, you’ll feel fuller longer on less calories. Choose lean proteins such as skinless chicken breast, turkey breast, or fish, and try to eat veggies that are low on the glycemic index. After the protein and veggies, fill the rest of your plate with small portions of complex carbohydrates and healthy fats.
Tip # 4 Watch the calories that you drink.
While it’s common knowledge to watch what you eat, you should also be watching what you drink. Those fruit drinks that you think are healthy are usually filled with lots of sugar and calories. Soda should be avoided, or at least switched out for the diet versions. For variety, try flavored water, or drinks with nutritional value, such as V8. Skim milk is another great option, and you should aim to drink three glasses of skim milk everyday.
If you follow these healthy eating habits to lose weight, you’ll be well on your way to losing the excess pounds without following every fad diet on the market.
