Reduce Your Golf Handicap with EFT

In the mid 1990s Stanford - trained engineer Gary Craig turned the psychology world on its head with the introduction of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). EFT is a meridian-based therapy, often referred to as do-it-yourself acupuncture without the needles. Instead you simply tap on a few clearing points on the face and body while focusing on the negative emotion, in order to clear it.

Sounds a bit unusual, eh?

It is unusual.

But so are the results.

Gary and his team achieved astonishing results while working with war veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These men had recurring nightmares, phobias, paranoia, shame and guilt among other socially crippling conditions and feelings. EFT was able to give them peace and hope in a matter of hours, where more traditional therapies had failed for years.

So what does this have to do with reducing your golf handicap?

Well, if EFT can help a war veteran with PTSD, then your first tee jitters, yips, or anxiety about hitting over water dont really stand a chance!

Try it for yourself.

The next time you are faced with a shot that is causing you any sort of negative emotion, do the following:

Step away from the ball.

Identify the negative feeling and focus on it while performing the tapping as described below.

1) Using the tips of your index and middle fingers, tap on the boney area about one inch directly below one eye approximately 10 times.

2) Next tap 10 times on the boney area just outside the same side eye.

3) Then tap the insides of your wrists together approximately 10 times.

4) Finally, take a deep breath, step up to the ball and swing away.

Yes, it really can be that simple to eliminate the mental and emotional barriers between you and consistent peak performance.

The above demonstration is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the enormous potential inherent in these techniques to reduce your golf handicap and increase your enjoyment out on the links.

Golf Training Aids Can Ease Your Path to Fairway Success

Golfers of all ages and levels of experience are increasingly turning to golf training aids to help them reduce their handicaps.

While pros have the sheer talent and coaching backup to drive straight and putt consistently, mere mortals like us resort to a variety of modern and scientifically proven golf training aids to slice strokes off our scorecards.

Amateurs and beginners may feel overwhelmed by the sheer variety of golf training aids on the market.

There seems to be a different golf training aid for every aspect of your game, no matter how minute, whether it is a Tempotimer for your swing or Footjoy socks to keep your feet comfortable as you undertake 18 arduous holes.

However, it’s not as difficult as it might appear. The eager amateur may be tempted to buy every golf training aid on the shelves. That’s not a problem, if you can afford it and you have the time to make use of your equipment.

A more practical solution would be to search your game itself to decide on what golf training aids would benefit you.

If you are hitting your drives straight but your chipping is poor, you may want to invest in a Chip N Pitch or a Chip Mate Net to increase your accuracy.

However, if your whole swinging game, whether off the tee or fairway needs urgent attention, you could opt for broader golf training aids such as the 8 Board, which can help you optimize your swing plane to suit your stroke.

Many golf training aids are endorsed by the professionals themselves and it would do the amateur no harm to take their lead.

South African Ernie Els, a three-time Major champion, promotes the Tempotimer, which wraps around your golf club to enhance your swing.

Fijian Vijay Singh, the former US Masters champion, will rave about the Speed Stik, a device that aims to quicken your swing and help you to hit the ball farther.

Apart from the playing professionals, there are also the teaching pros, who are probably among the greatest authorities on golf training aids because they are the ones who use these devices regularly as part of their work.

The Medicus Dual Hinge Driver, which is great for mending your slice, Eyeline Putting Laser and Path Pro are a few of a vast number of golf training aids that have been endorsed by the P.G.A. Professionals, a group of teaching pros who search for the best golf training aids and use them to teach their students.

Golf trainings aids don’t always take the form of equipment. Fitness programs, mental strength, motivational speeches and other off-course methods of improving your body and mind can be considered as golf training aids.

For these, there are obvious leading role models such as golfing guru David Leadbetter and world number one Tiger Woods, who has taken physical fitness and mental fortitude to a new level since he first burst on to the professional scene in 1996.

Whatever works best for you, what can’t be denied is that the golf training aids industry is worth billions of dollars.

The Internet has also become a popular medium to market these products. The Web has even allowed amateur inventors to sell their own home-remedy golf training aids and compete on an equal footing with the big companies.

Online consumers are latching on to this limitless marketplace as websites selling putting devices, swing-enhancers and even gloves that improve your grip take up more and more bandwidth.

Wherever there is a need to lower handicaps, there is always going to be a need for golf training aids. So, if you want to score lower, there’s plenty out there for you to choose from.

What Start The Downswing?

What Starts What?

There is a lot of talk about what starts the the backstroke and the downstroke. Some teachers advocate the pivot controls the whole swing and some others put the emphasis on controlling the motion with the hands.

Actually it can be either but be aware of the differences. The pivot provides the physics of the swing, rotational and linear force and reduces precision. If you decide to use Pivot controlled hands then physics are taking precedent over geometry. There are a number of players that use this procedure. While it CAN be fairly accurate there is a definite power loss. Examples would be Hal Sutton, Curtis Strange, Nick Faldo. All great players, but none of them are known for their length.

A hand controlled Pivot places geometry over physics and has all of the precision needed to control your game…since golf is a game of distance, direction and trajectory this procedure would seem to be the one that players should prefer. Examples would be Hogan, Snead, Nelson, Elkington, Els, Daly, and Tiger. These players have a lot of hand action and arm swing in their motion and all are fairly long.

Ideally, their is a perfect blend of pivot motion and arm swing.

Tiger is the biggest example of this type of motion today. Everyone talks about his hip speed but guess what, if his arms didn’t match the turning rate of his pivot then they’d be left behind and he’d either hit a block to the right or try to square up the face by hand manipulation. If the hand rotation isn’t timed exactly he would then hook it. We’ve all seen the occasional shot that plagues Tiger, the arms get left behind and then he either hits a block to the right or the big clubface pull to the left.. This is a re-occurring move that he and ex-coach Butch Harmon worked on constantly.

When working on your start down make sure that these areas of the motion match up. Some players may have to “feel” like the body chases the arms while others may “feel” the arms trailing the body.

Tiger Woods Memorabilia

Tiger Woods is nothing short of a phenomenon. No one has dominated a sport as difficult as golf more consistently than Tiger Woods. So as you would expect, Tiger Woods memorabilia is extremely popular. As you guessed, whenever you reach a “Michael Jordan” status in any sport, there are tons of fraudulent sellers that are waiting to forge your signature.

For example, Tiger Woods is known to not sign golf balls in public, yet you will find a lot of signed golf balls online — especially on eBay. A few years ago Tiger Woods signed an exclusive autograph contract with Upper Deck who is known for charging up to $2000 for a framed autographed photo of Tiger.

Tiger Woods knows that some people approach him on the golf course for autographs in an effort to gain inventory to sell online which is why he refrains from signing things in public. In order to preserve the value of his autograph, Tiger Woods will often times ignore requests to sign autographs. Sometimes this hurts the innocent bystander who genuinely wants Tiger Woods’ autograph for their own collection, but unfortunately that is life in the world of autograph collecting.

When large companies get a hold of a major athlete it is both good and bad. The good part is that the value of the autograph is upheld through the company setting prices in the market. The bad part is it puts memorabilia out of reach for the average person as not many people can afford a $1000 Tiger Woods autograph.

If you are in the market for a Tiger Woods piece of memorabilia the best thing you can do is make sure you’re getting the real thing. Do your research online and you will find out pretty quick who is selling the real thing and who is peddling forged autographs. When you are buying and autographed item that exceeds $1000 you need to stick with reputable companies who give authentic certificates of authenticity with all items.

9 Public Golf Courses in South Carolina

South Carolina has long been a popular vacation and recreation destination, especially the Myrtle Beach area. Consequentially, the state is blessed with many beautiful public golf courses, including:

1. & 2. The Barefoot Resort and Golf at North Myrtle Beach is home to four different golf courses: the “Norman Course”, the “Dye Course”, the “Love Course” and the “Fazio Course”. The Love and Fazio courses have been rated as two of the best public golf courses in not only the state, but in the country over all, and, as their names imply, were respectively designed by Davis Love III (a Carolina native), and reknown golf architect, Tom Fazio.

3. The Caledonia Golf and Fish Club at Pawleys Island is a beautiful course which has been very highly rated by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golfweek. The course is established on what was once a Carolina rice plantation, and is also home to the Caledonia Grillroom, a popular and hospitable restaurant offering many excellent local and southern dishes.

4. The Dunes Golf and Beach Club at Myrtle Beach is home to one of Robert Trent Jones’s finest designs. The course was first built in 1948, and then further improved by Robert Trent Jones himself in 1976-1977, and 1992. Since then, Robert Trent Jones’ son, Rees Jones, has continued his father’s work and further upgraded the course.

5. The Sea Pines Resort at Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, is home to three golf courses: “Harbour Town Golf Links”, the “Ocean Course” and “Sea Marsh”. Harbour Town Golf Links has been very highly rated by all of Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golf Weekly. This course offers panoramic ocean views, as well as deep bunkers and lagoons.

6. The Heritage Club at Pawleys Island, is another highly rated and beautiful par 71 course. The clubhouse overlooks the Waccamaw River, and the course itself offers rolling fairways and undulating greens flanked by lsuh vegetation.

7. King’s North at Myrtle Beach National at Myrtle Beach is an 18 hole course designed by Arnold Palmer and Frank Duane that first opened in 1973. The course has many unique and distinctive holes include the 3rd hole which has become a signature hole for the entire Myrtle Beach area, the 5th hole (nicknamed “The Gamber”) which offers a risky short-cut to green for a chance at an eagle, and the incredible 18th hole.

8. Kiawah Island Golf Resort is home to no less than five different courses: “Turtle Point”, “Osprey Point”, “Oak Point”, “Cougar Point” and “The Ocean Course”. The most highly regarded of these is the Ocean Course which was built in 1991 by Pete Dye. This course offers 10 ocean side holes, more than any other course in the Northern hemisphere, and is probably the course most affected by wind in the entire country, if not the entire world outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland. The most remarkable feature of the Ocean Course is that the play is completely different depending on the direction of the wind!

9. Tidewater Golf at North Myrtle Beach is a well regarded course that offers challenging but playable golf, suitable for both pros and lesser players.

Slope - Is It Really Important For An Amateur Golfer?

What is a slope?

As per the USGA the slope Rating is a number ranging from 55 minimum to 155 maximum that represents the difficulty of a course cause by length, obstacles, altitude, bunkers, water, even the grass height, for bogey golfers relative to the USGA Course Rating (which represents the difficulty for scratch golfers). Slope is a ratio. The higher the slope, the more difficult the course plays for bogey golfers. A slope rating of 113 is considered average.

I would say that 99 % of amateur golfers who play 5-10 games per year do not check the slope of a golf course because all they want is to have fun with their friends. However, how many golfers stopped playing this beautiful sport because they were playing on very hard courses? They had not realized that if they would have checked the slope before, it wasnt simply made for them, plus they end up all frustrate. Some golfers prefer challenges and they dont mind scoring 140 on a very difficult course slope over 130. However they simply dont realize that on a long run, this will simply increase their frustration, and these are the people usually who through their clubs after missing theirs shots. Any amateur golfer who starts playing should never play on a golf course more then 100. Why? Simply because this will increase their confidence, trust and realize that if they always score over 100 or close to 100, they know they will have a chance to gain experience on a long run. However if your challenge brings you on difficult courses and you always end up with a high score over 125 to 140, you will putt in your mind, that this sport is not made for you, which is a totally wrong thinking.

Therefore my answer for you is very simple. Yes, it is important for amateur golfer to check the slope of a golf course because this will help you determine on a long run if you will appreciate this sport and the possibility to gain experience as a fighter or simply sell your complete equipment to someone who will take advantage of your frustration.

Enjoy your game on an easy slope.

Is Posture Really Key To Your Golf Swing? part 2

Having established the importance of a good posture position in part # 1, here are some important points to bear in mind when developing your best posture.

Your posture position should be athletic and dynamic, allowing for balanced motion in any direction.

Think of a football quarterback under center and try to duplicate this position as closely as possible. Your weight should be centered on your feet not only left to right, but also from heel to toe. Your knees should be flexed slightly allowing for ease of movement and you should be bent slightly forward from the waist creating an axis on which you can turn your shoulders. Your arms should hang naturally from your shoulder sockets in a very relaxed fashion.

Here are (4) points that you should keep in mind when working into YOUR posture position. Work with these points and make your posture as consistent as possible from shot to shot. The more consistent your posture position, the better you’ll swing and the lower you’ll score.

1. The insides of your feet should be as wide as your shoulders and your weight should be centered left and right (Half your weight should be on your left foot and half on your right) and also from heel to toe.

2. Your knees should be flexed slightly allowing for balanced movement in any direction. With the proper flex, your knees should be directly over the arches of your feet and you should feel completely balanced and light on your feet.

3. You should be bent slightly forward from the waist creating an axis on which your shoulders can turn. Once you bend forward from the waist, your shoulders should be positioned over the arches of your feet. This is a very balanced position.

REMEMBER You must remain in a balanced posture position. If you feel unbalanced, keep working until you can duplicate this athletic and dynamic position time after time.

4. Your arms should hang straight down naturally from your shoulder sockets. Your shoulders, arms, and hands should be
completely tension free.

I know that working on your posture, your grip, and your alignment doesn’t seem nearly as glamorous as pounding 270 yard drives but trust me, without the proper grip, the correct posture position, and good alignment, there won’t be any 270 yard drives in your immediate future so pay attention to the fundamentals and and build your swing from the ground up.

I guarantee you’ll be glad you did!

How To Shave Points Off Your Golf Score With The Right Golf Shoes

If you want to shave a few strokes off your score but don’t want to pay a lot to do it then a good pair of discount golf shoes could be the answer. A good pair of shoes designed for the game of golf can help on the course as they grip the grass better than regular shoes and cause much less slippage. Staying balanced is key in golf and a good pair of discount golf shoes can keep you on the course instead of slipping all over it.

One good place to find them is sporting good stores which specialize in shoes. Many times, just like regular shoes, they have sales and also carry older pairs to other selections that have been upgraded. These type stores usually have many pairs of discount golf shoes.

Along this line specialty golf stores also can have many pairs to choose from whether they be on sale or older models. An advantage of this type of specialized store is that generally they will have salespeople that are more knowledgeable about the sport of golf and can steer you in the right direction no matter what you are looking for.

Golf is such a popular sport that in many discount malls and outlet malls there are usually sporting goods stores or golf specialty stores. These are great places to pick up some discount golf shoes. Many times they are newer models but if it is an outlet establishment then they are generally overstocked with them and therefore are less expensive.

No matter where you go the best time to buy anything golf is in the dead of winter. If where you live is too cold to play golf in the winter then to make up for lost revenue sporting goods stores and specialty golf stores will have big sales and slash prices on merchandise. You may not break out the discount golf shoes for a while but you will save some money in the process.

It seems as though you can find just about everything you need on the Internet these days. You can buy an entire set of clubs along with a nice new golf outfit all from your computer. Discount golf shoes can be bought this way too. Be careful though as you do not have the option to try them on first, and golf shoes especially need to be comfortable for walking around the course. A good option can be to go to a store that has golf shoes and try some on and see if you can find that type on the Internet. Even though discount golf shoes can be had on the Internet you dont want to be looking over a birdie putt worrying about your blisters.

Forgotten Fundamentals and Why Your Grip Is Key To A Repeating Golf Swing - Part 2

One of the most important keys to a repeating golf swing that hits one long, straight shot after another is to have the ability to relax your hands, arms, and shoulders and swing the club back and through impact without tension. With a good grip, this relaxed motion will return the club squarely to the golf ball time after time…. BUT if your grip is bad, it makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to deliver the club squarely to the golf ball without consciously or unconsciously some making some sort of in-swing correction.

If you’ve purchased my “How To Break 90 In 3 Easy Lessons” instruction system, you have found that my method teaches you to swing freely through the ball with an uncluttered mind promoting longer, straighter, and more consistent shots. In-swing corrections are an evil you can do without and in my instruction system I teach you how to be rid of these in-swing corrections forever. I stress fundamentals and show you how you can quickly and easily develop good fundamentals that will serve you well as you improve your golf game. I also show you how you can develop your feel for your swing so you can execute it over and over with a completely uncluttered mind, hitting longer, more accurate shots round after round but that’s another article for another day.

One of these fundamentals that I stress heavily within my system is a proper grip.

With the proper grip, a NEUTRAL grip, the club will return squarely to the ball time after time producing longer, straighter, and more consistent shots. It is vital to your success in golf that you develop and use a neutral grip as opposed to a “strong” grip or “weak” grip.

Let’s talk for a minute about the difference between neutral, strong, and weak grips so you can properly identify where you currently are.

A “strong” grip is one that has the back of the left hand and/or the palm of the right hand pointing to the right of your intended target line. A “weak” grip has the back of the left hand and/or the palm of the right hand pointing left of the intended target line. Easier to visualize for most players is when you take your grip and address the ball look down on your grip. If you can see more than 1 1/2 knuckles on your left hand, it is in a strong position. On the other hand, if you see no knuckles on your left hand, it is in a weak position.

There are numerous variations of weak and strong grips. Some players use a weak right hand and a strong left or vice versa. Some of these grips have worked very well for some players over the years but if you are just beginning to learn the game or you’re struggling with your game, the grip is the place to start and NOW is the time to develop YOUR “NEUTRAL” grip.

In “How To Break 90 in 3 Easy Lessons,” I show you step by step exactly how to develop your neutral grip. I also show you how to find your best posture and how to find perfect alignment and that’s just lesson #1. Then I show you how to apply these solid fundamentals to your full-swing, chipping, pitching, and putting as well as showing you hoe to hit scoring shots like the lob and the flop.

My system is designed to maximize performance and consistency with minimal practice time.
If you practice enough and have enough GOD given talent, you can make virtually any grip work but that’s not what you’re here for.

You’re looking for the “silver bullet” …..right?

You’re looking for longer, more accurate shots and lower scores and to achieve this goal without hours and hours of practice time, your fundamentals must be sound which is why you must start with the corner stones of a repeating swing…strong fundamentals.

Golf Course History - You Could Play On The World’s Oldest Golf Course

The oldest golf course in the world…

If I asked you where the oldest golf course in the world was what would you say? Scotland yes, good guess so far. But where in Scotland?

When pressed most golfers eventually say St Andrews, but theyre wrong. Golf was played at Musselburgh near Edinburgh at least ten years before any recorded games at St Andrews. Local records suggest that golf was played on the links land near the shore at Musselburgh from around the year 1567.

The old course in Musselburgh is still there today and retains much of its original layout. It has nine holes and the golf course can be played by all comers. Seven of the old course holes were laid out before 1830 (and probably much earlier) and the two new holes were added in the mid 1800s.

The British Open golf tournament was held at Musselburgh on five occasions between 1874 and 1889 and the first ever golf competition for women was played on the old course in 1811. The club members still compete for the Old Club Cup, which dates back to 1774.

Even the holes in the greens are significant at Musselburgh. In 1829 the members decided to buy a mechanical device from a local blacksmith to cut the holes on the green. By chance he made it with a diameter of exactly four and a half inches. Golf holes at the time could be any size that the members wanted there was no rule about it. In 1893 the Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St Andrews who by this time wrote the rules of golf for the game worldwide decided that all golf holes should be the same size as the ones at Musselburgh old course and the decision has remained unchanged to this day. Just measure the cup size on your local golf course if you don’t believe me.

For a golf course of such historical importance, access is remarkably easy. You can simply pay and play if you wish and there is a small shop selling special souvenirs. Memberships are available for both local and overseas members the latter might make a particularly unusual golf gift. Each overseas member receives a welcome pack with a history of the club, a special bag tag, special golf balls and tees and is welcome to join in any competitions if they come for a holiday in Scotland.

This truly is golf at its most authentic and in its most historical setting. Come try it you will really feel the history of the place.
